Meet Cherry Pop

This brick shotgun style home in Louisville historic Portland neighborhood was a stunner just waiting to come out from behind drop ceilings, paneling, and stick on tile flooring hiding its 1883 glory. We dubbed her Cherry Pop (for the bright red paint on the exterior) and took her down to the brick and studs, and made all the original details — 12 foot ceilings, hardwood floors, two hidden fireplaces, brick walls — shine. I designed this as a placeholder home for my little family after selling the Old Louisville Victorian while we planned where to head next, and had to go from demo day to moving day in 49 days. We finished with 24 hours to spare.

When we found our next home a few months later, I marketed the house without a realtor and had multiple offers at and above asking (at the highest price in the neighborhood) after one showing. Ultimately the challenges of revitalizing a home in a dis-invested neighborhood meant the comps didn’t support the sales price. But after a purchase price at $59/sq ft, we sold it a year later for $152/sq ft.
